FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS Physical Requirements:Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Frequently reaches (extending hands and arms in any direction), handles (seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or working with hands), and feels (perceiving attributes of items such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of fingertips). ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONS Behavioral Attributes:The following behavioral attributes are required: achievement motivation, concern for order; flexibility; initiative; self confidence; customer service oriented; interpersonal effectiveness; teamwork; analytical thinking and information seekingESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Demonstrates knowledge of and assists with surgical procedures by meeting the anticipated needs of the surgeon and other team members.Sets up table, instruments, and supplies according to the type of surgery being performed displaying dexterity in the use and handling of surgical instruments throughout the procedure.Selects, prepares and knows the specific uses for all necessary supplies, equipment and instrumentation used for each surgical procedure while ensuring that surgical procedure cards are current.Applies consistently, principles of aseptic practice to all surgical procedures in order to prevent infection.Demonstrates correct techniques for disinfection, sterilization and environmental control.Always opens sterile supplies aseptically by verifying exposure to a sterilization process and checking the integrity of the sterile package.Assists in skin preparation and draping of the patient and operative area as requested by the surgeon.Makes effective use of time, material, and motion in assisting the surgical team.Maintains correct account of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse and reports correctness and discrepancies according to Operating Room policy and procedures.Disposes of sharps from sterile field per Operating Room policy and procedures.Prepares all specimens and cultures appropriately for laboratory analysis.Assists the surgical team in the care and maintenance of the surgical suite to maintain cleanliness and allow rapid room turnover.
