Overview:The Health Center Licensed Practical Nurse provides professional health care to students and coordinates continued health care with allied health care professionals.This is a 32-40 hour a week primarily evening and night flex position based on the schedule needs.Responsibilities/Duties:Applies appropriate theory from nursing and associated areas to meet and uphold the mission statement of the school.Uses a systematic approach to problem-solving in nursing practice.Collects information about the health and development status of the student. Collects data from the student, family, guardian, school personnel and health care professionals.Prioritizes data in a systematic and organized process.Able to develop a nursing care plan with specific goals and interventions.Implements execute and adequately documents the interventions noted in the plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner Assess student responses to nursing actions in order to revise and implement toward goal achievement. Documents diagnoses, plans, interventions, and results on the student health record.Contributes to the education of the student with special needs by continuous assessment of the student, planning and providing appropriate nursing care, and evaluating outcomes of care.Participates in and presents findings, nursing diagnoses, and recommendations at MOC or Health Advisory Meetings.Provides information to parents/guardians information regarding policy and procedures for the special needs child.Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration. Documentation of dispensed medication per the policy of the Health Center, state law, and physicians orders.Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures in the Health Center.Uses effective written verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Uses communication as a positive strategy to achieve nursing goals Demonstrates sensitivity to values and cultures of students, families and staff.Demonstrates clear, cogent, and concise written communication.Maintains student confidentiality within the Health Center department.Recognizes and utilizes as appropriate and necessary the expertise of other school professionals to meet the needs of the students.Maintains a comprehensive school health program as established by the Health Center Coordinator.Orients and supervises faculty and other associated staff involved in health service delivery as appropriate.Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and the proper functioning of equipment.Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignments as necessary to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency.Provides resource information to other staff. Assists students, families, and the school community to achieve optimal levels of wellness through appropriately designed and delivered health education.Contributes in the assessment of health education needs for the school community.Acts as a resource person to the school community regarding health education and health educational material.Provides health instruction for students and staff.Promotes quality of care, purses continued professional enhancement, and demonstrates professional conduct.Demonstrates knowledge of the legal and ethical aspects of nursing.Maintains professional responsibility, accountability, and behavior.Pursues continued professional growth and development though educational programs, current literature in-service meetings and workshops. Shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.Demonstrates sensitivity to the policies and organizational structure of the school system.Requirements:Graduate from an Accredited Nursing Program. RN/BSN preferred. Current Registered Nurse licensed within the state of Massachusetts.Current BLS certification with updates annually.Clinical experience with adolescent health.Experience in the triage process and outpatient health setting.Ability to communicate well with students, parents, and fellow professionalsKeen analytical skills and a detail-oriented work styleMagnus EMR experience preferredPhysical Requirements & Work Environment:Occasionally lifts up to 20 pounds.Generally, works in standard office conditions and climate.Works in a moderately stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
