Provide technical consultation services in all areas of microbiology to the laboratory, its pathologist, manager, and to laboratory clients as requested. Such duties will include:Advising the laboratory staff, its pathologists and manager, on accurate, cost-effective, current testing in all areas of microbiology. Preparing technical reviews of current procedures, evaluating and incorporating of new procedures and implementing of new and revised laboratory procedures in microbiology. Providing expertise to laboratory for compliance with the requirements of the regulating bodies, including Joint Commission, state of California Title 17, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations through CLIA documents. Performing cost analysis of tests and provide advice on technical streamlining, cost savings, and optimizing services. Bench training of laboratory staff in new technologies; participate in Proficiency/Competency Review program. Working closely with infection prevention personnel on providing and interpreting laboratory information and their needs relative to surveillance, intervention and isolation policies and procedures. Assisting in the preparation of the annual antibiogram for publication to the medical staffConsulting with Pharmacy on appropriate antimicrobial utilization; analysis of susceptibility test data; and review laboratory methods for detection of new and emerging resistance patterns. Working with physicians to respond to their needs and to elicit their involvement in development of laboratory policies and procedures. Serving as a clinical diagnostic liaison from the laboratory to physicians, discussing the results and implications of microbiology data to the disease diagnosis. Providing in-service training to laboratory staff, nurses, and physicians on specimen collection and test ordering; emerging issues in microbiology, new requirements and methods in laboratory diagnosis, and other topics. Participating, at Hospital's request, in the Hospital's Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, in order to comply with applicable standards of "The Joint Commissions", state of California, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Contributing expertise and available to the Treatment and Surveillance Committee meeting as needed. **Work can be performed remotely. Hours based on work to be performed, up to 13 hours per month (monthly max pay per month at $1,500) based on $115/hour. May go over with approval.
